- Football - Italy - Serie A
Two surprise packages go H2H in the first match of Rd 28.
Once relegation candidate Cagliari are now sitting comfortably at 8th in the standings with just 1 pt shy of the 'safety 40 points'. Genoa are 5th-placed & looking at qualifying for the lucrative CL next season.
Form-wise however, both teams have slowed down a notch with just 5 points in their last 5 outings.
As for home-vs-away stats, Cagliari have a respectable home record at 8/3/3 with 2 defeats coming at the opening 2 at their Stadio Sant Elia. Meanwhile, Genoa's 4/5/5 on the road is 5th best in Serie A.
In light of the above info, there's some justification for the current odds. However, Cagliari have virtually a full squad & a win would not only ensure hypothetical safety, but move closer to qualifying for European football next term. Genoa on the other hand, will miss their most important player in midfielderThiago Motta through suspension. Also, banned are 1st choice defenders Matteo Ferrari & Giuseppe Biava - that's 2 of the 3 backline in their 3-4-3 setup. Also, striker Diego Milito, whose goals the team have so heavily relied on, hasn't been in his goal-scoring self with just a goal in his last 6 starts.
If Cagliari play their potential, I don't see why they can't take max points tonight.
My price: Cagliari -0. 25 1. 95
Prediction: 1-0 / 2-0
