D1 - Football - Spain - La Liga

Spanish League

Real Madrid vs. Barcelona

Real Madrid is second while Barcelona is first. This is the first of four matchups that will face both teams in next 18 days (being Spanish Cup final and the two legs of CL the other three). Eight points separate them, which means that the league is considered lost for home team and they prefer to focus on other competitions. Mou didn't say a lot in press conference yesterday, actually he kept silent, making the angered reporters leave the room. He even gave the wrong clues about the possible line up leaving Pepe, Di Maria and Benzema without "starting line up bibs". But this is definitely a bluff. The truth is that he will be able to line up his "super 11" players that has won ALL matches at home this season(that defeat at home vs. Sporting Gijon doesn't count since many players were missing). This match, compared to the three left, is considered the least interesting but I think that for Real Madrid this match is more important than what it looks.

Barcelona on the other hand come into the match as big favorites. They have won the last 5 "Clasicos" (Real Madrid against Barcelona) and will be looking to make history by winning a sixth. With Guardiola, if you sum up all Clasicos you get a 16-2 scoreline which shows how much team has dominated the Clasicos in last few years. The last time they met, they humiliated Real Madrid at Camp Nou by 5-0 and its their best psychological ally to beat them once again(2 years ago Barcelona best Real Madrid in Bernabeu 2-6 as well). But this time I think a lot has changed and I will explain this later. The visiting team has been looking strong in last few matches but they are not in their rampage mode. Messi has been scoring lately but you can see that he is not 100% of his level and Villa hasn't scored for Barcelona in last 9 matches. On top of that, they will have problems in defense. Busquets is expected to take the defense center spot along with Pique. Busquets is not a defender center but this is product of improvisation after having no more trust worthy defenders on bench. Still this is a good spot to exploit their defense. Btw, defender Puyol is back on the bench after 3 months absence, I really doubt he will start. Rest of the usual line up except Mascherano (important player lately) will be on the field.

Real Madrid has evolved since the 5-0 defeat to Barcelona earlier this year. Now they are a proper team and their confidence is higher as they know that with the usual line up at home, they have won it all. Although there is nothing much to play for in this match, it will be crucial for home team to win it. This is because Real Madrid always become "shy" against Barcelona and end up losing easily for some reason. Manager Mou has seen this and probably knows that if they want to have any chance of beating Barcelona in Spanish Cup final or CL semis, he must show his team that they CAN beat Barcelona first and there is no place better than home to do it. It would be a victory with huge psychological value that will boost Real Madrid's confidence for the tough 18 days that waits them. Barcelona are better with the ball and already got too accustomed to the feeling of superiority over their arch-rivals. Any sign of relaxation will have them pay the price of defeat and will be a tough warning for Spanish Cup final on Wednesday, which promises to be an epic match.

I think Real Madrid have a good chance of winning and I really doubt they will lose. Ill recommend Real Madrid +0 AH @ 2. 08
