EL - Football - Europe - UEFA - UEFA Europa League
Possible starting lineups:
Ajax:
Scherpen; Tagliafico, Alvarez, Martinez, Timber; Gravenberch, Klaassen, Rensch; Antony, Tadic, Neres
Roma:
Lopez; Mancini, Cristante, Ibanez; Bruno Perez, Veretout, Villar, Spinazzola; Pellegrini, Pedro; Dzeko
Ajax initially played in the Champions League, but finished as third in the group and continued in UEFA Europa League. The Dutch champions faced Lille in the first knock-out stage and won twice with identical 2:1, while in the second round they secured a 5:0 aggregate victory over Young Boys. Roma were excellent during the group stage of the competition, as well as in the knock-out stage. The Italians have eliminated the Portuguese side Braga and Shakhtar Donetsk from Ukraine with 5:1 aggregate victories.
I think Roma won't lose in Amsterdam. The key reason for my pick is connect with the hosts. Coach Erik ten Hag has big injury worries ahead of this match. Goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is doubtful due to a knee injury. Netherlands U-21 goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen could therefore make his European debut as Andre Onana is still excluded through a doping offense. Defenders Noussair Mazraoui and experienced Daley Blind are out injured due to head and knee injury respectively. The record signing Sebastien Haller is ineligible to play in Europa League due to an administrative error made by club officials.
Roma also have some injury issues as Stephan El Shaarawy, Marash Kumbulla, Chris Smalling are injured, while Rick Karsdorp is suspended. Still, Fonseca has bigger roster. Ajax are not the same team that played in the Champions League semi-final two years ago. Almost all the best players left the club, like Zijech, De Ligt, Van de Beek, de Jong.. .
